Enjoy the Crystalline Water

Cozumel’s crystal-clear waters, coral reefs, and marine biodiversity make it one of the best scuba diving and snorkeling destinations.

Scuba-diving

The vibrant Mesoamerican Reef system—the second-largest in the world—lets you observe thousands of coral, fish, and mollusk species. The reef is also home to over 1000 manatees!

You can swim through massive coral formations and don’t forget to check out the Santa Rosa Wall. At this epic drop-off, you’ll spot sea turtles, eagle rays, and sponges of every color.

Snorkeling

You can still see marine life around the island without the scuba gear. The clear waters make snorkeling on Cozumel just as exhilarating as going down under. 

Boat tours can take you to Palancar Reef or Playa El Cielo in the southwest, where you can snorkel in open waters or right off the beach.

Discover the Island by Car

One of the best ways to discover Cozumel’s ancient culture and natural beauty is by car. You can rent one or hire a driver and head to these places for the ultimate road trip: 

The Mayan ruins of San Gervasio: Glimpse the architecture of ancient Mayan society at these ruins, surrounded by lush jungles.  

Chankanaab Natural Lagoon: Enjoy turquoise waters and submerged Mayan structures at this natural treasure.

Relax at a Beach Club

If you've been hunting last minute cruise deals, visiting one of the island’s secluded beach clubs is the perfect way to unwind and escape tourism. The clubs have a full complement of facilities, including restaurants, bars, showers, lounge areas, and plenty of water sports for those feeling more adventurous. 

If the most popular clubs are too busy for your liking, head to Cozumel’s eastern coast to check out the less developed areas with local beaches and smaller crowds.

Take in the Culture and Cuisine

For the best local experience, walk around downtown San Miguel and watch the vibrant cultural hub of Cozumel hum with activity. 

If souvenir shopping is your thing, head to Los Cinco Soles for an excellent selection of handcrafted silver and renowned Mexican vanilla, naturally grown on Cozumel.
